Priska Janssens

Theatre Workshop Director, Theatre Educator & Stage Director
After school, Priska Janssens completed apprenticeships at various theatres in the fields of directing, stage design and drama, as well as working on numerous projects within the street and independent theatre scenes. As head of the theatre pedagogy department (nowadays known as the “Theaterwerkstatt”) at the State Theatre since 2002, her department continues to develop a widely diverse range of interactive offerings for the youth and those “young at heart”. This includes workshops for all age groups, school theatre days (drawing around 1000 young actors to the theatre’s stages each year) and interactive performance projects which are developed in collaboration with its participants. In 2011, Janssens created the opera “Gilgamesch” with the assistance of 350 Wiesbaden residents, an expansion of the citywide “move@school” education project. A further and particular focus of the past 20 years has been artistic collaboration with people with disabilities, which led to a fully inclusive re-working of the “move” project with “move@2014”, among other things. As from the 2014/2015 season, Janssens’ department has significantly increased its offerings for refugees, and in 2014 she was the recipient of the City of Wiesbaden’s Cultural Prize.
