Born in France, Valérie Sauer graduated from the Conservatoire national de Bordeaux in 1994, and three years later acquired a diploma in Stage Performance from the Cologne Music Academy, specialising in ballet and modern dance. Apart from numerous festival performances, her dance career has taken her from the state theatres and opera houses of Cologne, Bonn, Mainz and Darmstadt to the Wiesbaden State Theatre, where she danced under Ben van Cauwenbergh and Stephan Thoss. At the same time, she played an important role in the development of various contemporary dance workshops and performances as part of the School Theatre Days, working in collaboration with both mainstream and special schools in Wiesbaden. In her desire to teach dance as a fully-inclusive, cross-generation art form, she completed advanced training as dance and movement therapist in 2012, and qualified as a Shiatsu practitioner in 2013. She most recently put this training to use during the two-year city project “move@2014”, where she readied 100 Wiesbaden residents for the stage. Valérie Sauer has been in charge of dance education activities at the Wiesbaden State Theatre since the start of the 2014/2015 season, and also creates various workshops and courses herself (e.g. “TschiTschiBäng”, “Bewegte Zeiten”, “Tanz Anders für Schulen“).
