Egils Silins

Latvian bass-baritone Egils Silins is one of the most sought-after singers in his fach. He has held permanent engagements in Frankfurt, Basel and at the Vienna State Opera. Some of his major roles include the title role in "Der fliegende Holländer" in Düsseldorf, London, Madrid and at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Escamillo ("Carmen") in Hamburg, Mandryka ("Arabella") in Cologne, Pizarro ("Fidelio") at the Vienna State Opera, Jago ("Otello") in Cincinnati, and Grand Pretre ("Samson et Dalila") at the Paris Opera. Recent highlights include Jochanaan ("Salome") in London, "Fürst Igor" and Jochanaan in Zurich, Amfortas ("Parsifal") in Barcelona, Klingsor ("Parsifal") at the Semperoper in Dresden and Scarpia ("Tosca") at the Berlin State Opera.

His vast repertoire encompasses more than 90 roles in German, French, Italian and Russian. Some of his most important roles include Telramund in "Lohengrin", Orest in "Elektra", Barak in "Die Frau ohne Schatten", Germont in "La Traviata", Sebastiano in "Tiefland", Rangoni and Boris in "Boris Godunow", the title role in "Eugene Onegin", as well as Méphistophélès in Gounod's "Faust". He has sung Wotan and the Wanderer (in the "Ring Cycle") in Paris, Munich, Leipzig, Tokio and at the Wagner Festival in Budapest. After performing Wotan in "Die Walküre" in 2016/17, he now returns to Wiesbaden as the Dutchman in the 2018 International May Festival production of "Der fliegende Holländer".
