Gabriele Rech

Gabriele Rech was born in Duisburg and completed her studies in German and English Literature at the Ruhr University of Bochum, after which she worked as assistant at the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen. She has since directed over 70 music theatre productions as freelance director, having worked in Cologne, Nuremberg, Münster, Wiesbaden, Mannheim, Bremen, Weimar, Dortmund, Linz, Graz, Antwerp, Catania, Bern, Bordeaux and Nice, amongst others. Her work has garnered numerous prizes and awards, including the "Faust" Theatre Prize for "Madama Butterfly" at the Musiktheater im Revier, Opernwelt Magazine's special distinction for "Die Zauberflöte" in Weimar, "Winterreise" in Bielefeld and "The Tales of Hoffmann" in Kassel, as well as countless nominations for "production of the year". Since 2010, she has held a post as Professor of Stagecraft at the Cologne University of Music and Dance. Her most recent work includes "Carmen" at Nationaltheater Mannheim, Alois Bröder's "Die Frauen der Toten" (world premiere) at Theater Erfurt, "Gianni Schicchi" at Cologne Opera, "La Juive" by Fromental Halévy at the Nuremberg State Theatre and at Nice Opera, as well as Bellini's "Norma" in Wiesbaden during the 2015/16 season. She returns to Wiesbaden this season to direct "Die Fledermaus".
