Luis Carvalho

Portuguese theatre designer Luis Carvalho lives in London and works in opera, drama and dance. His designs include Kennedy's "We Are Shadows" (Spitalfields Music Festival), Cocteau's "The Human Voice" (Trafalgar Studios), "The Sound of Silence" (Trafalgar Studios), "Untitled" (Dance Short Film), "Profili" (Bloomsbury Theatre), »"ong Kong Depression 1999", "Quirk" (Place Theatre) and "Juicy Bits" (Lyric Hammersmith). International engagements have taken him to the USA (Broadway, Metropolitan Opera), Glynderbourne, Salzburg, the Bolshoi Theatre and the Opera Bastille. He has worked with Mark Thompson (Verdi's "Macbeth", Bett's "On The Third Day", Johnson's "The Alchemist"), Anthony Ward (Schiller: "Mary Stuart"), Maria Bjornson (Verdi's "Il Trovatore"), Robert I. Hopkins (Tchaikovsky's "The Enchantress") and Robert Jones (Hammerstein: "The Sound Of Music", Frayn: "Noises Off"). He designed the stage and costumes for "The Turn of the Screw" alongside Robert Carsen at Theater an der Wien, a production which also graced the Wiesbaden stage. In 2017/18, he designed the stage for Beka Savić's new production of "Un ballo in maschera".
