Baz Luhrmann masterfully sets the opulent New York upper crust society of 1922 ablaze on the silver screen, with bright colours, costumes, party scenes and lots of glitz and glamour. Set in the era of the "Golden Twenties", the dramatic love triangle, which is at the centre of the film, inspired opera director Beka Savić for her production of Verdi's "Un ballo in maschera", the opening opera gala of the 2018 International May Festival.
