This season, we continue our series of Baroque concerts under the direction of internationally renowned specialists. The sixth Symphony Concert features conductor and harpsichordist Allessandro De Marchi, who will conduct the Hessian State Orchestra from the harpsichord. De Marchi is principal conductor of the Academia Montis Regalis and Artistic Director of the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music. Georg Philipp Telemann, arguably German's most well-known style model and multi-talent, is the focal point of the concert. Telemann founded the Collegium Musicum in Leipzig, held a position as city music director in Frankfurt, and worked as music director, opera house manager and publisher in Hamburg. On the programme is Telemann's "La Bourse" Suite, dating from his Frankfurt period, as well as music by his contemporaries. More than 50 years of correspondence exists between Telemann and Handel, and he was godparent to Carl Philipp Emanuel, the son of his friend J.S. Bach. Johann Mattheson, in turn, inspired Telemann to write his autobiography, and continuously praised the composer in his critiques.
