Patrick Lange

Conductor
Born in 1981 near Nürnberg, Patrick Lange’s musical career started in the Regensburger Domspatzen Boys’ Choir, after which he studied at the Music Conservatoires in Würzburg and Zurich. He was admitted to the “Dirigentenforum” of the German Music Council in 2005 and appointed as Assistant Conductor of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra in the same year. In 2007 he won the European Cultural Prize in the “Young Conductors” category and in 2009 he received the first Eugen Jochum Scholarship awarded by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. In October of the same year, he performed “Così fan tutte“ with Glyndebourne Opera in England. Lange’s professional career as opera conductor began in Zurich (“L' Enfant et les Sortilèges“) and Lucerne (“Falstaff” and “Don Giovanni”). In 2007 he made his debut at Berlin’s Komische Oper with “Le nozze di Figaro”, where he became first Kapellmeister in 2008 and was appointed Chief Conductor in May 2010. He opened the 2010/2011 season with a very successful new production of “Meistersinger aus Nürnberg”, followed by “Rusalka” and “Idomeneo”. In November 2010, he made his debut at the Vienna State Opera with “Madama Butterfly”, and also conducted “Don Giovanni”, “Così fan tutte“, “Eugen Onegin” and “Ariadne auf Naxos” there, amongst others. Other important engagements include productions in Dresden, at London’s Covent Garden, Hamburg State Opera, Sydney Opera (“La Traviata”), the Bavarian State Opera (“Entführung aus dem Serail”), Zurich Opera House (“Jenufa” and “Faust”) and Frankfurt Opera (“Ariadne auf Naxos”). He conducted Mahler’s “Lied von der Erde” (with choreography by John Neumeier) at Paris Opera to great acclaim, subsequently followed by “Die Zauberflöte”. As concert conductor, Lange has conducted has conducted a myriad orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic, the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria, Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the Beethoven Orchestra in Bonn, Radio Orchestra Munich, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the SWR and WDR Symphony Orchestras in Stuttgart, the Graz Philharmonic and the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra in Venezuela. In addition, he has conducted the closing concert at the Bayreuth Festival of Young Artists, as well as a tour with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and the Stuttgart Philharmonic.
