Daniel Carison

The Australian baritone Daniel Carison is the winner of the 2018 German Australian Opera Grant in Melbourne. Founded in 2003 by former Wiesbadener Hans Henkell, the competition honours young Australian vocal talent and enables them to spend a year at the Wiesbaden State Theatre. A graduate of the University of Melbourne in 2014, Daniel completed his initial operatic training under the guidance of Peter Mander. In 2015 Daniel became the recipient of a scholarship with the Melba Opera Trust, the premier operatic training and business program for singers in the Southern Hemisphere. In 2017, Daniel joined the Melba Opera Trust for a third consecutive year as the recipient of the Ruskin Opera Award and the Paulette Bisley Opera Scholarship, through Dame Nellie Melba Opera Trust. His roles at the Victorian Opera in Melbourne include Pandolfe in Massenet's "Cendrillon" and Balthazar in Richard Mills's "The Play of Herod". During the 2018/19 season he sang Hermann Ortell ("Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg", Foreman ("Jenufa"), Marullo ("Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg"), Second Nazarene ("Salome") and Masetto ("Don Giovanni"). His roles in season 2019/20 include Morales ("Carmen"), Ned Keene ("Peter Grimes"), Daddy Hogan ("Anna Nicole") and Sciarrone ("Tosca").
