Nicolas Brieger began his career as an actor for theatre, television and cinema. His work as director has taken him t theatre in Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, the Vienna Burgtheater and the Vienna Festival, among others. From 1978 to 1980 he was director of the Bremen Schauspiel together with Frank-Patrick Steckel, and from 1988 to 1992 he was theatre director at the Nationaltheater in Mannheim. He has staged operas at some of the most well-known theatres, such as the Berlin State Opera, Paris Opéra Bastille, Bavarian State Opera, Theater an der Wien, Stuttgart State Opera, Frankfurt Opera, Grand Théâtre de Genève, San Francisco Opera and Zurich Opera.

Productions in Wiesbaden include "La traviata", "Der Rosenkavalier" and "Don Giovanni", as well as "Hamlet", "Nathan der Weise" and "Wallenstein". In addition, he has appeared as actor in the title roles of "Baumeister Solness" and "King Lear".
