Dorothy, a young farm girl, is swept away by a cyclone and ends up in an adventurous dreamland. On her way to the mighty Wizard of Oz, she meets a Scarecrow without a brain, the Tin Woodman who has a silk heart stuffed with sawdust, and the Cowardly Lion. Once they reach the Emerald City, the Great Wizard promises to give them courage, a heart, a brain and a way home, if they undertake to steal the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West.

On their adventurous fairytale journey, Dorothy and her companions soon learn that one must rely on one’s own abilities, and that difficult tasks are best solved as a team.

Everyone knows Frank L. Baum’s world-famous story about the young girl from Kansas, published in 1900. The first stage adaptation of the story appeared as early as 1902 and guaranteed world fame came in 1939 with the Hollywood movie starring Judy Garland as Dorothy. Today, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” remains one of the most widely read children’s books.
