Respected gynaecologist Dr. Prätorius, young wife in tow, has had a fatal encounter with a tree. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are tasked with investigating the death of the eponymous doctor, and in the process review his life and work: what emerges is the profile of a man gleaming with vitality and conviction, whose cure for all matters illness (and otherwise) was humour and humanism. Yet his unusual methods and ideas, as well as his aversion to “human idiocy”, brought him as many enemies as friends. The famous detective twosome now attempts to reconstruct the scene: why was Prätorius called to give evidence before a commission of enquiry? Could his young wife be a suspect? And how was his mysterious factotum Shanderson involved?

“Dr. med. Hiob Prätorius” is a comedy by the great Swiss German theatre writer Curt Goetz, who drew attention to themes of humanity and unconventionality with his light tone and intelligent wit.
