Vesselina Kasarova

Vesselina Kasarova was born in Bulgaria and initially trained as concert pianist, a career which she later gave up to become a professional singer. Following first engagements at the opera houses of Vienna and Zurich, she made her first appearance at the Salzburg Festival in 1991, after which she has since sung at international opera houses such as La Scala in Milan, the Royal Opera House London, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Opéra Bastille & Garnier Paris, Liceu in Barcelona, the Hamburg and Munich State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Zurich Opera House, to mention but a few. She has become famous for her performances in Mozart operas, as well as as the bel canto and French repertoire. She has worked with some of the leading conductors and have given song recitals and performed in concerts all over the world. Her recordings, many of which have won Echo-Klassik awards, include "Tancredi", "Werther", "I Capuleti e i Montecchi", "La favorite", "L'Italiana in Algeri", "La clemenza di Tito", a CD of opera arias, as well as a recording of Bulgarian songs. Her book "Ich singe mit Leib und Seele" was published in 2012. She made her debut as Judith ("Bluebeard's Castle") in Wiesbaden in 2014/15 and now returns as Azucena in "Il Trovatore".
