"Joyce sings and the world is suddenly brighter", says composer Jake Heggie of Joyce DiDonato. After the horrific Paris attacks of 2015, the American mezzo-soprano devised a programme of stunning Baroque arias, to remind the world of the importance of human values. Recently crowned Echo Klassik's 2017 Singer of the Year, the world star now also brings "In War and Peace - Harmony Through Music" to the Wiesbaden International May Festival. As inspiration, the singer puts a very personal question to the audience: how does one find peace, when chaos rages all around us? Her answer: in music. "Art unifies, transcends borders, connects the disconnected, eliminates status, soothes turmoil, threatens power and the status-quo, and gloriously exalts the spirit. Art is a valiant path to peace". Joyce DiDonato is accompanied by the multiple award-winning ensemble Il Pomo d'Oro under the direction of Maxim Emelyanychev.
