Anna Maria Dur

Anna Maria Dur was born in the Netherlands and studied in Brussels and Amsterdam. She became a member of the solo ensemble at the Karlsruhe State Theatre in 2008 and has been a professor at the Mannheim Conservatory since 2002. The start of her career saw her focusing mainly on the Baroque and lyric repertoire, with conductors such as Ton Koopman and Philippe Herreweghe. She gradually developed into a dramatic mezzo, singing roles such as Venus ("Tannhäuser"), Ortrud ("Lohengrin"), Brangäne ("Tristan und Isolde"), Klytämnestra ("Elektra"), Herodias ("Salome"), Gertrud ("Hänsel und Gretel"), Eboli ("Don Carlos"), Azucena ("Il Trovatore") and Amneris ("Aida"). In 2009, Opernwelt Magazine nominated her as Singer of the Year for her Kundry ("Parsifal"). She has also enjoyed success as interpreter of contemporary music, with roles such as Poncia in Reimann's "Bernarda Albas Haus", Mrs Twist ("Brokeback Mountain"), and Camila ("The Exterminating Angel" by Thomas Adès). After singing Filippyevnain ("Eugene Onegin") in 2017/18, she now returns to the Wiesbaden stage as Buryjovka in "Jenufa".
