All hell has broken loose in Hoboken. Five nuns from The Order of the Little Sisters of Hoboken slip away from the convent to pursue their secret passion: playing Bingo! When they return to the convent, they discover that the other 52 nuns have accidently died of food poisoning after eating a tainted fish soup. Since they can only afford the burials of 48 of the deceased, they stage a variety show to raise funds for the honourable burial of the remaining four who, up to now, have been kept on ice in the kitchen deep freeze. And so the ordained nuns surprisingly emerge as real show talents: amongst them Mother Superior, a former circus tightrope walker, Sister Amnesia with her ventriloquism skills, and Sister Maria Leo who is determined to be the world's first ballerina nun. This macabre background story sets the stage for a madcap show, a true satirical take on convent life, Catholicism and show business.

Dan Goggin hails from a small town in Michigan. He grew up near a nunnery and even studied to become a priest himself before heading for Broadway. According to Goggin, the nuns in the story are based on his own life experiences: “I went to Catholic school and actually the nuns in the show are based on nuns who taught me in real life, who just happened to be these characters who are such funny people”. With its exceptional success, “Nunsense” is the second longest-running show after “The Fantasticks” in Off-Broadway history.  The show has won four Outer Critics' Circle Awards, including best Off-Broadway musical, best book and best music, played for 10 years off Broadway and has delighting audiences worldwide with more than 5, 000 productions in 26 languages. There have since also been a number of equally successful sequels.
