Schiller's Sturm und Drang play "Kabale und Liebe" tells of the love between Ferdinand and Luise, two young people who are not interested in ancestry or wealth, but only want to celebrate youth and love. IN order to be together, they must be prepared to face opposition from their parents and society as a whole.

A politically charged Romeo and Juliet version and denunciation of court arrogance, a rigid system of status and a corrupt society that is more willing to accept disaster than it is to embrace the happiness of its children. Schiller's "bourgeois tragedy" is one of the great classics of German drama.
