Leo Tolstoy’s novel “War and Peace”. The monumental literary work of Russian social realism. The British-German performance collective Gob Squad – winner of numerous awards and internationally renowned – has set itself the challenge of bringing this novel onto the stage. – Just like in the time of the Russian aristocracy in the nineteenth century, a group of artists meet in a salon. Far from the current crisis zones of the world – warm and safe – their conversations keep returning to “War and Peace”. They dance, eat, dress up and have duels. Almost in passing, Gob Squad addresses the great questions of our time: the origin of conflicts, our privileges, freedom and our individual responsibility. How carefree and comfortably can we live with the knowledge of the suffering, chaos and damage that is partly caused by our everyday ‘peaceful’ lifestyles? – After their celebrated show in the Maifestspiele 2015, Gob Squad returns to Wiesbaden!
