Johanni van Oostrum

South African soprano Johanni van Oostrum is a graduate of the University of Pretoria. She received vocal training from Kammersängerin Mimi Coertse and was a member of the "Black Tie" Opera Studio. Guest engagements have taken her to the Munich State Opera (Countess Almaviva in "Le nozze di Figaro"), Bolschoi Theatre in Moscow (Marschallin in "Der Rosenkavalier"), the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam (Marschallin in "Der Rosenkavalier" under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle), Komische Oper Berlin (Eva in "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg", Antonia in "Hoffmanns Erzählungen", Micaëla in "Carmen" First Lady in "Die Zauberflöte"), the Graz Opera (Grete in Der ferne Klang), Bonn and Heidelberg (Senta in "Der fliegende Holländer") the National Theatre in Weimar (Elsa in "Lohengrin", Mimì in "La Bohème", Marschallin in "Der Rosenkavalier" and the National Theatre Brno (Titel Role in "Katja Kabanová") amongst others. Previous appearances in Wiesbaden include the Countess and Elsa. This season, she will appear as Ellen Orford in "Peter Grimes" and Countess Almaviva in "Le nozze di Figaro".
