Next Generation: Die Kompositionsklasse von Claus Kühnl
The Composition Students of Claus Kühnl
Born in 1957, composer Claus Kühnl's composition class at Dr. Hoch’s Conservatory in Frankfurt is widely regarded as one of the largest talent pools of our generation. When asked about the young generation of composers, Kühnl answered: "Without one of them having formulated it as such, I often think of a maxim by Novalis: 'To romanticize the world is to make us aware of the magic, mystery and wonder of the world; it is to educate the senses to see the ordinary as extraordinary, the familiar as strange, the mundane as sacred, the finite as infinite.” The young generation is seeking something special, a unique moment, something which is difficult to define in a free, non-existent form. Something still oscillates here, something which began in the Romanticism."
