With "Puz/zle", Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui turns once again to the question of how versatility and ambiguity influence our thoughts and how fragments of the familiar can unite in an unusual way - just like a puzzle - to form new perspectives. Why do some connections work and why are others doomed to fail? And, when they fail, do they really truly fail, or is failure in the eye of the beholder?
"Puz/zle" approaches the history of mankind as a puzzle, as an interplay of different identities and cultures which are on equal footing and respect each other. Individually and in groups, the eleven dancers, the Corsican male sextet "A Filetta", the Lebanese mezzo-soprano Fadia Tomb El-Hage and the Japanese multi-instrumentalist Kazunari Abe also embark on a search for the common roots of Islam and Christianity, amongst other things.Kindly supported by De Warande.
