British-American mezzo-soprano Andrea Baker began her career as a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Competition, and has since sung dramatic Wagner roles such as Fricka, Erda, Brangäne, Venus and Ortrud. Her much heralded interpretations further range from Amneris in “Aida”, the title role in “Carmen” to Serena in “Porgy and Bess” and Nen-Nen in Dominique Legendre’s “The Bird of Night”. Guest engagements have taken her to many of the world’s greatest venues in London, Munich, Salzburg, Berlin and Rome, among others. In Wiesbaden, she is known for her celebrated performances as Ortrud (“Lohengrin”), Amme (“Die Frau ohne Schatten”), Stolzius’ Mother ("Die Soldaten"), and her song recital "Sing Sistah Sing!" (2016 International May Festival), which also went on tour in the USA. After singing Auntie in last season's acclaimed production of "Peter Grimes", Andrea Baker returns this season as Kader in Søren Nils Eichberg's new opera "Schönerland".
