Romeo Castellucci – The Parthenon Metopes
A production of Romeo Castellucci / Socìetas in coproduction with Theater Basel, La Villette, Festival d’Automne à Paris.
Presented in cooperation with Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, Theater Rüsselsheim / Kultur123 Stadt Rüsselsheim and Adam Opel AG.
In 2013, Italian artist Romeo Castellucci was given an award for his life’s work by the Venice Biennale. According to them, he has the ability “to create a new language for the stage, interweaving theatre, music and sculpture.” “The Parthenon Metopes” is a sophisticated game with art and reality addressing the great questions of humanity: Where do we come from? Where are we going? In the beginning, there is a moment of horror. There has been an accident, or to put it better: an incident. It’s unclear what exactly has happened. We see a person in pain. Seconds extend into eternity, until help suddenly arrives. Castellucci lets us observe the suffering of others. We are transported into a parallel world in order to take a look at our own world – and find it changed. — Allow yourself to be taken away to a world full of powerful images by one of the most important artists of our time!
