Vereint sind Liebe und Lenz

Love and Lenz United
Nature as performer in "Der Ring des Nibelungen"
Presented in German

Dr. Oswald Georg Bauer, theatre expert, dramaturg and former press officer of the Bayreuth Festival, discusses nature as active element in Wagner’s “Ring” cycle. River, rock, forest, ash, weather phenomena, animal protagonists such as bear and wild bird, and of course Mother Nature herself – personified through Erda – all fulfil fundamental dramatic and symbolic roles in Wagner’s famous tetralogy.

Dr. Oswald Georg Bauer has been working for the Bayreuth Festival for over 35 years. In the summer of 2016, he published the first historical documentation of this important German music festival, spanning over 1300 pages. With his years of experience and first-hand knowledge, he is a leading expert on the master’s self-built theatre building, as well as the history of his music dramas.
