Philipp M. Krenn

Philipp M. Krenn hails from Vienna, where he received his first musical education as member of the Vienna Boys' Choir. After completing his drama studied in Vienna, first engagements followed at the Wiener Volkstheater and at the St. Pölten Landestheater. In 2008, he started working as Assistant Director at Theater and der Wien, and in the following years assisted numerous notable directors, including Robert Carsen, Alvis Hermanis, Philipp Stölzl, Sven-Eric Bechtolf and Damiano Michieletto at the Vienna State Opera, Salzburg Festival, Vienna Festival, Berlin State Opera, Theatre la Fenice in Venice and the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen. He directed the Austrian world premiere of Manfred Trojahn's "Orest" at the Neue Oper Wien, as well as the two one-act operas "L’Heure espagnole" and "Les mamelles de Tirésias" at Theater an der Wien, productions which were extremely well-received both by the public and critics. In addition, he directed Henze's "Pollicino" in St. Gallen and Britten's "The Little Sweep" in Vienna. Previous productions in Wiesbaden include the opera "Peter Grimes" in 2016/17 and the play "Der Club" in 2018/19. This season, Krenn returns to Wiesbaden to direct a new production of "Il Trovatore".
