Wiesbaden Biennale 2018
Maria M. Ludewig (*1982) and Martin Hammer (*1981) have been working together on a variety of projects for over ten years. Maria M. Ludewig studied Philosophy in Hamburg and Berlin, and Theatre Directing at Berlin’s Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art, after which she worked as writer, director and freelance producer of international theatre projects and interdisciplinary congresses (e.g. Nordwind Festival, Hamburg). After completing his Theatre and Literary Studies in Hamburg, Berlin and Leipzig, Martin Hammer worked as freelance dramaturg at various opera houses and city theatres, including the Munich Kammerspiele, Dresden Staatsschauspiel and Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus. In 2008, the two founded the “Union Universal” production label together, a platform through which they have realised numerous cross-discipline projects existing fluidly between urban space, theatrical stage and performance-based intervention (e.g. “Perspektive Hamburg” and “Dem Weggehen zugewandt“). Their projects have been presented at venues such as Kampnagel in Hamburg, Berlin’s Radialsystem, the Hellerau Festspielhaus and Frankfurt’s Mousonturm.
In 2014, they took up the exciting challenge of becoming the curatorial team of the 2016 Wiesbaden Biennale and are also involved with the International May Festival (Maifestspiele).
The other members of the 2016 Biennale team are Toni Müßgens, Mara von Zitzewitz, Kirsten Wandschneider, Clarissa Nießner, Elisabeth Schwarz, Tilman Hatje and Sebastian Börngen.
