Ioan Hotea

Romanian tenor Ioan Hotea studied in Bucharest. He made headlines in 2015 when he won the Operalia Singing Competition in London, one of the most prestigious competition in the world. As ensemble member of the Bucharest National Opera, his roles included Nemorino (“L'elisir d'amore”), Count Almaviva (“Il barbiere di Siviglia”), Don Ottavio (“Don Giovanni”), Rinuccio ("Gianni Schicchi") and Filipeto in Wolf-Ferrari's "I quatro rusteghi". He performed Count Leicester ("Maria Stuarda"), Percy and Hervey ("Anna Bolena") and Lord Cecil ("Roberto Devereux") at Theater an der Wien, and at the Opéra de Monte Carlo he sang L’Amante in Menotti's opera "Amelia al Ballo". Many important debuts soon followed, such as Tebaldo ("I Capuleti e i Montecchi") at the Paris Opera, Rinuccio and Ernesto ("Don Pasquale") at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, Ernesto in Zurich, Ferrando ("Così fan tutte") an Almaviva at the Vienna State Opera, Nemorino at the St. Margarethen Festival, Almaviva at the Greek National Opera in Athens, as well as Nemorino at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. Other highlights include Ernesto at Staatstheater Stuttgart, Elvino ("La Sonnambula") at the Frankfurt Opera and Almaviva at the Vienna State Opera. Since 2015, his roles in Wiesbaden have included Alfredo ("La Traviata"), Ernesto, Ferrando, Nemorino, Don Ottavio ("Don Giovanni"), as well as role debuts as Tamino ("Die Zauberflöte") and Chevalier des Grieux ("Manon"). After singing Duke of Mantua ("Rigoletto") and Don Ottavio last season, he now returns to Wiesbaden as the Italian Singer in the new production "Der Rosenkavalier".
