José Fardilha

Portuguese baritone José Fardilha is a regular guest at venues such as La Scala in Milan, the Vienna State Opera, Paris Opera, Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Zurich Opera House as well as at the Salzburg Festival, Maggio Musicale in Florence and the Barbican Center in London. His repertoire includes roles such as Don Giovanni and Leporello, Figaro ("Il barbiere di Siviglia"), Marcello ("La Bohème"), Belcore ("L'elisir d'amore"), and Germont ("La traviata"). In 2019 and 2020 he was in demand worldwide, with performances at the Bolshoi in Moscow ("Il viaggio a Reims"), in Deagu (Rambaldo in "La rondine" directed by Rolando Villazón), at the Ópera Nacional de Chile (Don Alfonso in "Così fan tutte") and in Turin (Brander in "La damnation de Faust").

He began his operatic career as Masetto ("Don Giovanni") in his native Lisbon, where he also made role debuts as Figaro ("Le nozze di Figaro"), Marcello, Taddeo ("L'italiana in Algeri"), Giorgio Germont, Alidoro and Dandini ("La Cenerentola"), among others. As winner of the "Toti dal Monte" singing competition, he was invited to perform Leporello at opera houses in Italy and at the Opéra du Rhin in Strasbourg. He made his La Scala debut in a production of Pergolesi's "Lo Frate 'nnamorato" under the musical direction of Riccardo Muti, and made a guest appearance in "Turandot" under Zubin Mehta at the Forbidden City in Beijing.

José Fardilha graces the Wiesbaden stage at the 2021 International May Festival as Doctor Bartolo in "Il barbiere di Siviglia", a role which he has sung at the Royal Opera House in London, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, in Leipzig, Copenhagen and Chile.
