Klaus Florian Vogt is one of the greatest tenors of our time, known around the world for his critically acclaimed Lohengrin. In addition to other Wagner roles such as Parsifal, Stolzing ("Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg"), Tannhäuser and Siegmund ("Die Walküre"), his repertoire also encompasses lyric-dramatic roles such as the Emperor in "Die Frau ohne Schatten", the Prince in Dvořák's "Rusalka", Bacchus in "Ariadne auf Naxos" and Faust in "La Damnation de Faust". Hailing from North Germany, he started his career as a horn player in the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra, whilst simultaneously studying singing in Lübeck. He made his Japanese debut in 2005 in Tokyo (in the title role in "Les contes d'Hoffmann"), followed by his American debut as Lohengrin at the Metropolitan Opera in 2006. Since 2007, he has made regular guest appearances at La Scala in Milan (Lohengrin, as well as Florestan in "Fidelio"), and in the same year made his Bayreuth Festival debut as Walther von Stolzing in the new production of "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg", directed by Katharina Wagner. He has subsequently been a regular Bayreuth guest and sang Lohengrin in the Neuenfels production from 2011 to 2015. This was followed by Parsifal in 2016 in a new production by Uwe Eric Laufenberg, as well as Stolzing in "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" in 2017, 2018 and 2019, directed by Barrie Kosky.In 2019 and 2021 he once again sang Lohengrin, followed by Siegmund in 2022. He made his role debut as Tannhäuser in 2017 in a new production at the Bavarian State Opera, in 2023 he sang Siegfried ("Siegfried") for the first time and his role debut as Siegfried in "Götterdämmerung" is planned for November 2023. In January 2024 Klaus Florian Vogt will make his debut as Tristan at the Semperoper Dresden. He was awarded the ECHO Classic Artist of the Year Award in 2012, and was named "Hamburger Kammersänger" in 2019.
