Michael Helmrath’s career began as principal oboist of the Munich Philharmonic, later progressing to conductor and founder of the Munich Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. He was General Music Director of the Brandenburg Symphony from 2003-2015 and has worked with orchestras such as the Dresden Staatskapelle, Nürnberg Symphony, the Dresden and Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestras, the Radio Symphony and German Chamber Orchestras in Berlin, the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, as well as orchestras in Jerusalem and China. He has conducted world premiere performances of works by Moritz Eggert and Jörg Widmann, amongst others. After conducting “The Tales of Hoffmann” during the previous season, he returns to Wiesbaden to conduct “Hänsel und Gretel”.
