GMD Patrick Lange

Conductor
Patrick Lange became General Music Director (GMD) of the Wiesbaden State Theatre at the start of the 2017/18 season. Born in 1981 near Nürnberg, Lange's musical career began at a young age in the Regensburger Domspatzen Boys’ Choir, after which he received his formal musical education at the Conservatories of Würzburg and Zurich. He was admitted to the Conductors' Forum of the German Music Council in 2005 and appointed as Assistant Conductor of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra in the same year. In 2007, he won the European Cultural Prize in the “Young Conductors” category and in 2009 received the first Eugen Jochum Scholarship awarded by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.

His career as opera conductor began in Zurich and Lucerne. He made his debut at Berlin's Komische Oper in 2007 with "Le nozze di Figaro", where he became first Kapellmeister in 2008 and Principal Conductor in 2010. In the same year, he made his debut at the Vienna State Opera, where he still appears as regular guest. Further engagements have taken him to the Semperoper Dresden, London's Covent Garden, the Hamburg State Opera, Opera Australia in Sydney, the Bavarian State Opera, the Zurich Opera House, the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, Korean National Opera in Seoul, the Stuttgart State Opera and Opera Frankfurt. He made his greatly acclaimed debut at Opéra national de Paris with Mahler's "Lied von der Erde", choreographed by John Neumeier.

Patrick Lange's busy concert schedule includes performances with the Vienna Philharmonic, the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria, the Hamburg and Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, the Beethoven Orchestra in Bonn, the Munich Radio Orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the SWR and WDR Symphony Orchestras and the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra in Venezuela. He has also conducted tours with the Academy of St. Martin the Fields, the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the RSO Vienna and Germany's National Youth Orchestra, with which he is closely associated.

During his first season as GMD, Patrick Lange opened the season with "Die Zauberflöte für Kinder" and conducted new productions of "Tannhäuser", "Arabella" and "Un ballo in maschera". This season, he conducts the new productions "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg", "Jenufa" and "Salome"", in addition to four symphony concerts and a New Year's gala concert.
