Konrad Junghänel

For many years a lutenist, Konrad Junghänel is one of the leading conductors of early music (Baroque to Mozart) today, with many of his over 35 CD recordings crowned with major awards. He has worked with René Jacobs and ensembles such as Les Arts Florissants and Musica Antiqua Cologne. He has been a professor at the Cologne College of Music since 1994 and is much in demand as opera conductor both at home and abroad, among others in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Graz and at the Vienna Festival. Previous productions in Wiesbaden include “Le nozze di Figaro”, “Die Entführung aus dem Serail”, “Orfeo ed Euridice”, “Così fan tutte”, “Alcina”, "Don Giovanni", "Jephtha", "Die Zauberflöte", "La clementa di Tito" and "Idomeneo", as well as revivals of "Don Giovanni" and "Alcina". In addition, he has conducted the Hessian State Orchestra in an all-Baroque programme. During the 2019/20 season, he conducted the revival of "Die Zauberflöte", as well as a staged version of the "St Matthew Passion". In 2020/21 he returns to Wiesbaden to conduct new productions of "Il barbiere di Siviglia" and "Le nozze di Figaro", as well as the revival of "La clemenza di Tito".
