Timo Riihonen

Finnish bass Timo Riihonen was born in Mikkeli in 1983 and studied singing at the Sibelius Academy. He was a member of the International Opera Studio at Zurich Opera during the 2008/09 season and has won numerous awards, including the 2007 Matti Salminen Scholarship. He was an ensemble member at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein from 2009 to 2013, subsequently joining the ensemble of Theater Kiel from 2013 to 2018. He has graced the Bayreuth stage since 2016, in productions such as "Parsifal", "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" and "Lohengrin". Guest engagements have taken him to the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Berlin State Opera, the Berlin and Moscow Philharmonics, to Dijon, Helsinki, Riga and the Savonlinna Opera Festival, among others. Previous roles in Wiesbaden include Fasolt in "Das Rheingold", Sarastro ("Die Zauberflöte"), Gremin ("Eugene Onegin") and Daland ("Der fliegende Holländer"). In 2020/21, he appears as Priest and Old Convict in Shostakovich's "Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District".
