Austrian tenor Andreas Schager quickly established himself as a leading Heldentenor. Following permanent engagements in Krefeld/Mönchengladbach he guested in roles such as Tamino (“Die Zauberflöte”), Max (“Der Freischütz”) and Florestan (“Fidelio”) in Cologne, Bologna, Gent and at the Royal Opera in Canada. He made his La Scala debut in 2013 as Siegfried (“Götterdämmerung”) under Daniel Barenboim and sang the title roles in “Tristan und Isolde”, “Parsifal” and “Tannhäuser” at the Berlin State Opera and Deutsche Oper, in Hamburg, Madrid and Antwerp. Previous appearances in Wiesbaden include Erik ("Der fliegende Holländer") at the 2016 International May Festival, a role which he has also sung at the Berlin State Opera and in Bayreuth. He sang the title role in Uwe Eric Laufenberg's production of "Parsifal" at the Bayreuth Festival in 2016 and 2018. Andreas Schager has been a regular guest at the International May Festival since 2016 with his signature role as Siegfried in Wagner's "Ring".
