Gabriela Scherer

Gabriela Scherer was born in Zurich and studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, as well as taking master classes with Angelika Kirchschlager, Francisco Araiza and Barbara Fink. In 2005, she won the Kammeroper Rheinsberg International Singing Competition and made her debut as Hänsel in Humperdinck's "Hänsel und Gretel". As a member of the Leipzig Opera ensemble during the 2007/8 season, her roles included Annio in Mozart's "La clemenza di Tito", Composer in Strauss' "Ariadne auf Naxos" and Miss Jessel in Britten's "The Turns of the Screw". This was followed by engagements at the Munich State Opera from 2009 to 2011, with roles such as Fenena in Verdi's "Nabucco", Hänsel, Sœur Mathilde in Poulenc's "Dialogues des Carmélites" and Dorabella in Mozart's "Cosí fan tutte". In addition, she appeared as Meg Page in Verdi's "Falstaff" (under Thomas Hengelbrock) at the Baden-Baden Festival.

In recent years, a natural progression into the lyric-dramatic soprano fach brought some changes of repertoire: she made her debut as Ariadne (Strauss) at the Lucerne and Lübeck Theatres, as Countess Almaviva in Mozart's "Le nozze di Figaro" at Leipzig Opera and the Semperoper Dresden, as First Lady in Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte" at Opéra National de Paris, as well as Freia in a concert performance of Wagner's "Das Rheingold" with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester under Thomas Hengelbrock in Hamburg, Dortmund and Baden-Baden. She recently made roles debuts as Agathe in Weber's "Der Freischütz" at Leipzig Opera, Arabella (Strauss) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and Lisa in Tchaikovsky's "Pique Dame" at the Heidenheim Opera Festival. In Wiesbaden she makes her house and role debut as Senta in Wagner's "Der fliegende Holländer".
