Will Humburg studied in Hamburg under Horst Stein and Christoph von Dohnanyi, followed by first engagements in Essen, Hagen and Italy. As General Music Director in Münster from 1992-2004, he conducted “Der Ring”, amongst others. He stepped in for Giuseppe Sinopoli’s “Siegfried” and “Götterdämmerung” at short notice in Rome, and has since conducted many operas in the Italian capital. Further guest engagements have taken him to opera houses and festivals such as La Scala, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Dresden Semperoper, Stuttgart, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Budapest, Lisbon, Düsseldorf, Catania, Cagliari, Trieste, Palermo, the Menorca Opera Festival, Megaron in Athens, Accademia Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Busseto Verdi Festival in Munich, Seville, St. Petersburg, and Savonlinna. He made his Hamburg debut in 2007 and regularly conducts in Bonn and Cologne. He was principal conductor at the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania from 2009 to 2011 and took up the position of General Music Director at the Darmstadt State Theatre in 2014/15. In Wiesbaden, he conducted “Norma” and “Tosca” during the 2014/15 season. This season, he returns to the podium to conduct the new production of "Rigoletto".
