Bernd Mottl is activeas director of opera, drama, musical and operetta. He made a name for himself in Berlin through his collaboration on new musical productions with author Peter Lund ("Das Wunder von Neukölln", "Elternabend", "Held Müller"). Operatic engagements have taken him to Berlin, Vienna, Leipzig, Kiel, Braunschweig, Kassel, Erfurt and Baden-Baden, with productions such as "Madama Butterfly", "Tosca", "Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in patria", "La Traviata", "Die Entführung aus dem Serail" and "Martha", as well as rarely performed works such as Othmar Schoeck's "Penthesilea", the world premiere of "Kleist" and Kurt Weill's "Street Scene". He has worked regularly in Cottbus, at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin, and at the opera houses of Hannover and Cologne ("La Voix humaine/Bluebeard's Castle", "Die Csárdásfürstin" and "L'Elisir d'amore"). He directed Oliver Bukowski's "Nichts Schöneres" (with Désirée Nick) at the Renaissance Theatre Berlin, "La Cage aux folles" at Bar jeder Vernunft, "Die Fledermaus" and "Dialogues des Carmélites" in Bern and "Die Zauberflöte" in St. Gallen. His first production in Wiesbaden was the hugely successful "Candide" in 2014/15, followed by both dramatic and operatic productions: "Geächtet", "Mein Kampf", "Schade, dass sie eine Hure war", "Manon", "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" and "Anna Nicole". This season, he returns to Wiesbaden to direct the new production "Kalldewey, Farce" by Botho Strauß.
