Romanian tenor Ioan Hotea studied in Bucharest. As ensemble member of the Bucharest National Opera, his roles included Nemorino (»L'elisir d'amore«), Count Almaviva (»Il barbiere di Siviglia«), Don Ottavio (»Don Giovanni«) and Rinuccio (»Gianni Schicchi«). He made headlines in 2015 when he won the Operalia Singing Competition in London, and has since been in demand worldwide, with performances at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opéra de Paris, the Vienna State Opera, Zurich Opera and Opéra de Monte-Carlo, in roles such as Ernesto (»Don Pasquale«), Tebaldo (»I Capuleti e i Montecchi«), Ferrando (»Così fan tutte«), Almaviva, Ernesto and Cassio (»Otello«). He made his house debut in the role of Ernesto at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, followed by Lord Arturo Talbot (»I puritani«) and Tonio (»La fille du régiment«) in 2020. At the Staatsoper Stuttgart he also sang Ernesto and Almaviva, followed by Chevalier des Grieux (»Manon«) and Almaviva at the Greek National Opera in Athens, and Elvino (»La sonnambula«) at the Frankfurt Opera.

Since 2015, important roles in Wiesbaden include Alfredo (»La Traviata«), Ernesto, Ferrando, Nemorino, Don Ottavio (»Don Giovanni«), Almaviva, Rinuccio (»Gianni Schicchi«), as well as debuts as Tamino (»Die Zauberflöte«), Chevalier des Grieux (»Manon«), Duke of Mantua (»Rigoletto«) and Werther. This season, he graces the stage as Camille de Rossillon in »Die lustige Witwe« and will once again appear as Duke of Mantua and Rinuccio.
