Johannes Klumpp

Born in Stuttgart, Johannes Klumpp studied conducting with Nicolás Pasquet and Gunter Kahlert in Weimar. In 2007, he attracted attention winning 2nd place at the Besançon Conducting Competition. This was soon followed by the Herbert von Karajan Young Conductors Award (1st and special prize) as well as the German Conducting Prize. He has received master classes from Kurt Masur, Gennady Rozhdestvensky and Michail Jurowski, amongst others, and was named "Maestro of Tomorrow" by the German Music Council.

He has worked with orchestras such as the mdr Sinfonieorchester, the Staatsorchester Stuttgart, the Weimarer Staatskapelle, the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, the Dresdner Philharmonie, as well as Essen's Folkwang Chamber Orchestra.

Klumpp also enjoys a successful career as opera conductor, most recently with "Le nozze di Figaro" at the Landestheater Innsbruck. As Principal Conductor of the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen, he developed a diverse music theatre repertoire with works such as Handel's "Flavio", Aida", "Manon Lescaut", Britten's "Gloriana", "The Merry Wives of Windsor" and Gounod's "Faust".

During the 2022/2023 Wiesbaden season conducted two symphony concerts, as well as new productions of "Die lustige Witwe" and Janáček's "From the House of the Dead" and "The Makropulos Affair". During the 2023/24 season he conducts a new production of "Der Freischütz".
