Marianne Glittenberg initially studied German philology and musicology. After her first collaboration with Wilfried Minks at the Schauspielhaus Bochum, frequent artistic partnerships with Luc Bondy and Jürgen Flimm followed, among others at theatres in Cologne, Hamburg, Zurich, as well as at the Vienna Festival and at the Théâtre Vidy in Lausanne. Other important directors include Götz Friedrich, George Tabori, Johannes Schaaf, Luca Ronconi and Hans Neuenfels. More recently, she has designed for productions with Sven-Eric Bechtolf at the Burgtheater in Vienna, at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and at the Zurich Opera House. Important conductors include Sir Georg Solti, Christoph von Dohnányi, Lorin Maazel, Gerd Albrecht, Sylvain Cambreling, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Franz Welser-Möst and Christoph Eschenbach. Marianne Glittenberg has created costumes at the Salzburg Festival (among others for "Die Zauberflöte", "Die Frau ohne Schatten", "L'Incoronazione di Poppea", "Don Giovanni", "Ariadne auf Naxos", "Così fan tutte"), at the Hamburg State Opera ("Wozzeck", "Fidelio", "Lulu", "Les Contes d'Hoffmann", "Arabella"), the Vienna State Opera ("Der ferne Klang", Wagner's "Ring", "Cardillac", "Ariadne auf Naxos", "La Cenerentola", "Rusalka"), as well as for twelve productions at the Zurich Opera House. In addition, she has worked at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, in Amsterdam, Brussels and Stuttgart ("Hänsel und Gretel", "Die Sache Makropulos"). She first collaborated with Uwe Eric Laufenberg on Strauss's "Elektra" at the Vienna State Opera. In Wiesbaden, further collaborations include the plays "Don Karlos", "König Lear", "Drei Schwestern" and "Tartuffe", as well as the operas "Tannhäuser", "Idomeneo", "La clemenza di Tito", "Don Carlo" and "Pique Dame".
This season, she will design the costumes for Shakespeare's "The Tempest" (Der Sturm), as well as Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte" and Verdi's "Falstaff".
