Elisabeth of Hungary was canonised for her selfless love of the poor and the sick. The patron saint of Hesse-Thuringia became a legend of the 13th century and was revered not only by those who came after her. Two servants recall the life of the saint and her love for her husband Ludwig IV, Landgrave of Thuringia, with great affection. This dialogue is framed by late medieval music from Elisabeth's time to Baroque works by composers with close ties to Hesse, such as Heinrich Schütz and Georg Philipp Telemann.
