Comedy in five acts by Molière
Performed in German
With Tartuffe, Molière created the archetypical religious-political hypocrite, the type who would sell their own grandmother to get ahead. Tartuffe has taken up residence with Orgon, who initially falls for the selfish swindler. Orgon's family is up in arms because Orgon and his mother have fallen under Tartuffe’s influence. By the time Orgon is able to take control of the situation, it is almost too late.
Molière brilliantly transforms the essentially serious dramatic material into a fantastic witty comedy.
