Samuel Levine

Samuel Levine was born in Boston and graduated from The Juilliard School, the Yale University School of Music and Oberlin Conservatory. He regularly works with directors such as Yuval Sharon, David Hermann and Tatjana Gürbaca. In 2009 he made his debut at Saint Louis Opera in "The Tales of Hoffmann", followed by his international debut at the Wexford Opera Festival in Ireland in 2010. As a freelance artist, he has made guest appearances at Opera Philadelphia, Houston Grand Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Virginia Opera, Santa Fe Opera and Chicago Opera, amongst others. His repertoire includes roles such as Narraboth ("Salome"), Lenski ("Eugene Onegin"), Don Ottavio ("Don Giovanni") and Oronte ("Alcina"). He specialises in contemporary music and has sung the title role in Libby Larsen's "Frankenstein" and the American Schneider in Menotti's "The Last Savage", amongst others. He relocated to Europe in 2017 and made his debut at Oper Frankfurt as Bertoldo in Manfred Trojahn's "Enrico", as well as appearing in numerous other new productions there. Guest engagements include Kunz Vogelgesang ("Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg") at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, Walther von der Vogelweide ("Tannhäuser") at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt and "Hamlet" by Brett Dean at Cologne Opera. Concerts performances have taken him to the Houston Symphony, Carnegie Hall and the Chicago Symphony Center, amongst others. During the 2022/23 season, he makes his Wiesbaden debut as Ulrich Eisslinger in "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg", as well as taking on the role of Jimmy in "Oryx and Crake" and Skuratov in "From the House of the Dead".
