South African-born Albert Horne studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He worked as chorus master and conductor at Cape Town Opera in South Africa from 2007 to 2014, and under his leadership their chorus was voted "Best Opera Chorus of the Year" at the 2013 International Opera Awards in London. In 2012 he was chorus master for concert performances of Gershwin’s "Porgy and Bess" at the Philharmonie in Berlin, with Sir Simon Rattle and the Berliner Philharmoniker. Albert Horne has been chorus master and conductor at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiebaden since the start of the 2014.2015 season, where, in addition to preparing the opera chorus for all productions, he has also conducted "Candide" (Bernstein), "Madama Butterfly" (Puccini), "Boris Godunov" (Mussorgsky), "Peter Grimes" (Britten), "La Bohème" (Puccini), "Schönerland" (world premiere by Søren Nils Eichberg), "Liliom" (ballet by Tim Plegge), "Anna Nicole" (Turnage), "Babylon" (Jörg Widmann), "Il trittico" (Puccini), "Oryx and Crake" (world premiere by Søren Nils Eichberg) and "Follies" (Stephen Sondheim), as well as three symphony concerts and a New Year's concert with the Hessisches Staatsorchester. In addition to his position as chorus master, he also took on the position of Coordinating Music Director at the Hessisches Staatstheater from 2022 to 2024. As an orchestral conductor, he has worked with the Orchestra Victoria (Melbourne), the Orchestre Pasdeloup (Paris) and at the opera houses in Bordeaux, Malmö, Tel Aviv, London (ENO) and Cardiff (WNO), among others, and conducted the Rhineland-Palatinate State Youth Orchestra, with which he toured through Germany, South Africa and Botswana in 2018. Other guest engagements include concerts with the Munich Symphony Orchestra in the Gasteig and the Prinzregententheater in Munich as well as with the Rheinische Orchesterakademie Mainz. He has also performed as piano accompanist in the USA, Great Britain, Australia, France, Sweden and Germany.
In the 2024.2025 season, he will conduct "Die Zauberflöte" (Mozart) and the ballet "Chronicles" at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden.
