Claudio Otelli

Bass-baritone Claudio Otelli was born in Austria and completed his vocal studies at the Vienna Academy of Music, subsequently entering the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera. Since 1994 he has freelanced on the stages of Europe, the USA and Japan, including at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich as Orest ("Elektra"), at the Semperoper in Dresden as Mandryka ("Arabella"), as Gunther ("Götterdämmerung") at Teatro alla Scala and as Dr. Schön ("Lulu") at the National Theatre in Tokyo. He has sung Scarpia ("Tosca") at the Bregenz Festival, Klingsor ("Parsifal") in Stuttgart, Hans Sachs ("Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg") in Bremen, as well as the title roles in "Rigoletto" and "Wozzeck". Otelli has worked with directors such as Martin Kušej, Nicolas Brieger, Calixto Bieito, Marco Štorman and Herbert Fritsch. Previous roles in Wiesbaden include Dr. Schön at the 2009 International May Festival, as well as Priest King in "Babylon" at the 2022 International May Festival. He returns to Wiesbaden during the 2022/23 season as Pizarro in Beethoven's "Fidelio".
