Already an annual institution, Wiesbaden-based Ensemble Mattiacis, under the artistic direction of Thomas de Vries, returns to the International May Festival this year with a programme of solo madrigals and arias by Claudio Monteverdi, Francesco Cavalli, Alessandro Scarlatti and George Frideric Handel, as well as instrumental music from this epoch. The much-acclaimed Baroque specialist Dorothee Mields, one of the world's leading sopranos in her field, will appear as special guest in the vocal works. The accomplished Baroque violinist Julia Huber will act as concert master, while acclaimed French harpsichordist Yvon Repérant will play continuo.
