Max, the second assistant forester, is on the verge of achieving his dreams: he is to marry his beloved Agathe and, on top of that, he is to succeed her father as head forester. But first, he has to prove his marksmanship and score in a shooting trial before Ottokar, the sovereign prince. With so much at stake for him, Max is drawn into a dangerous contract with the Devil.

Carl Maria von Weber literally hit the mark wit his "Freischütz". The opera became an immense success and, for many, still remains the epitome of romantic German opera.
