Ballet by Tim Plegge with music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
The ballet season opens with a new version of the classic "The Nutcracker", choreographed by Tim Plegge. The story revolves around Marie, who discovers a nutcracker amongst the presents on Christmas Eve. When the nutcracker comes alive, Marie soon finds herself on an exciting journey through hopes, dreams and desires, one in which everyday life takes on bizarre and surreal forms. Marie is drawn into a battle between the toys and the mouse king, she experiences exciting adventures alongside the nutcracker and accompanies him to a magical land, where the sugar plum fairy, among other magical beings, awaits them. Above all, Marie experiences a world that fulfils everything that seems to be missing in real life. The ballet is based on the original play by E.T.A. Hoffmann, adapted by Alexandre Dumas and set to music by Tschaikovsky. In Tim Plegge's new version of the hugely successful work, fairytale-like elements and everyday family life blur into each other, and the dark and bizarre also have a special place in the production.
