Richard Strauss (1864 – 1949)
Comic opera in three acts
Sung in German, with surtitles.
Libretto: Hugo von Hofmannsthal
Premiere: 1911 in Dresden
In the words of the Marschallin, "time is a strange thing". Richard Strauss's timeless comic opera "Der Rosenkavalier" is the second collaboration between the composer and the congenial author Hugo von Hofmannsthal. Nicolas Brieger directs Strauss's famous work. With Karl-Heinz Lehner, a true-blood Austrian takes on the role of Baron Ochs, bringing an unmistakable Viennese charm to the stage. Nicola Beller Carbone returns to the Wiesbaden stage as Marschallin, while the other roles include Silvia Hauer as Octavian, Thomas de Vries as Faninal and Aleksandra Olzcyk as Sophie. GMD Patrick Lange conducts the Hessian State Orchestra.
