Johanni van Oostrum

South African soprano Johanni van Oostrum is a graduate of the University of Pretoria. Guest engagements have taken her to the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich (Elsa in "Lohengrin' in 2019/20 and Countess in "Le nozze di Figaro"), Theater an der Wien (Agathe in "Der Freischütz") and the Komische Oper Berlin (Eva in "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" in 2016/17). Important roles include Marschallin (in Richard Strauss' "Der Rosenkavalier" at the Komische Oper Berlin, Bolshoi Moscow, Royal Opera Stockholm, as well as the Dutch Oper under Simon Rattle), Senta ("Der fliegende Holländer" in Québec, Bonn, Heidelberg and Cape Town ), Katya ("Katya Kabanova" in Bern), Richard Strauss' "Salome" (2018.2019 in Graz) and Marietta in Korngold's "Die Tote Stadt" (2018.2019 at the Opéra de Limoges).

The 2019/20 season includes house debuts at the Grand Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Barbican in London and at the Opéra de Rouen Normandie, where she sings Agathe in Weber's "Der Freischütz" with the Insula Orchestra under Laurence Equilbey. Previous appearances in Wiesbaden include Elsa ("Lohengrin"), Ellen Orford ("Peter Grimes") and Countess ("Le nozze di Figaro"). This season, she graces the Wiesbaden stage as Marschallin ("Der Rosenkavalier"), Chrysothemis ("Elektra") and Ellen Orford.
